Wo ist unser Gepäck?Where is our Luggage?

Flug Air Canada
Air Canada, Flug 0877 – Unser Flieger ins Abenteuer

“Was sollen wir machen? Also warten wir lieber.”

Flug Air Canada
Air Canada, Flight 0877 – airplane to adventure!

After we said good bye to my parents, my sister and Flo -a friend and fantastic moving helper-
everything is easy. The luggage inspection is devoid of people and we come through in 5 minutes. The flight itself is totally relaxing, we do not even recognize, that we fly.

At 10 PM german time, I open the window shade and I am surprised cause the sun is still shining.
Well, we’re flying with the sun and it will not get dark until we arrive Halifax.

After approx. 8 hours we land inToronto and need to get our connection flight. We wonder if we have to pick up our luggage first.
Somehow, everything sorts itself out. Passengers with a connection flight are channeled directly to the baggage claim, that answered our question.
We don’t wait long and our first bag came off the belt. Also the 2nd and 3rd. But where is the last one?? We wait and wait…

Mona am GepäckbandI wonder why one of the airport clerks, takes several suitcases off the belt (rather careless) and puts them aside. But we understand quickly that there is a baggage jam due to too many suitcases on the belt.
Suddenly 5 more clerks help to through (very unmindful) the luggage aside. The conveyer band runs again but our back pack does not show up.
„That bites!“ curses Jan and asks one of the ’suitcase thrower‘ where our bag could be. The guy shows us a belt on which the fragile and cumbersome stuff arrives.
And indeed, our backpack is THERE.

Now: Cut and run! The plane departs in 25 minutes.

The lady in front of the luggage check-in explains that we are too late to drop the bags for the connection flight but also checks with a guy on the counter and we are supposed to still drop the bags.

No sooner said, than done. But sure, with a funny feeling. Well, that doesn’t matter. We need to get to the Gate, which unfortunately is furthest from our place.
Once there we are -besides a mom with baby- the last two checking in.

This flight is also quiet and after 2 hours of sleep we arrive in Halifax.
Jan waits for our bags while I try to find the restroom facilities.

As I come back, jan asks if I recognized, that we do not even have one of our backpacks yet.
„Oh No! And the belt already stopped. Besides, nobody else than us is still waiting“ I answered edgy.

Jan am GepäckbandJan hurries to the Luggage Service and explains that we’re missing our bags. A nice man gives us two Dopp kits and calms our fear.
„The luggage might be in the last plane which will arrive in 2 hours. You can go to your hotel and we will call you tomorrow morning when the bags are here or you can also wait here if you like.“

It’s 2 AM local time and we are tired. But we will both have a much better feeling to leave the airport with our stuff and decide to wait for another 2 hours.

To shorten the waiting period, we enjoy our first Canadian Food: a big Blueberry Muffin and a hot chocolate at the airport (it was not too bad ;))

Waiting pays! The bags come in the last plane and we can sigh with relief.

We take a taxi to our airbnb (www.airbnb.de) lodging and fall to bed exhausted.
